Our Story
The Coop was created by Sam Rosen and Pat Griffin, the partners behind One Design Company. Sam was introduced to coworking after spending a day at Brooklyn Coworking in New York City. He returned to Chicago inspired and eager to discuss the possibilities of expanding One Design Company’s physical space to accommodate coworkers. Intrigued by the idea and motivated by the potential business aspect of it, Pat and Sam set out to create one of the first coworking spaces in Chicago.
Originally The Coop was created in the West Loop, literally right next to Sam’s apartment. But in 2011, as demand grew for coworking, The Coop decided to move downtown to Chicago’s River North neighborhood into an open and roomy 5,500+ sqft loft space.
Situated just beneath the EL on Franklin Street, The Coop is close to major CTA stops (Brown Line Chicago + #66 bus route) and walking distance to several great shops, restaurants and local businesses.
Who coworks here? It’s constantly changing but we host an amazing crew of writers, web developers, acoustic engineers, designers, journalists, students, entrepreneurs and all flavors of independent, open-minded people!
